Jandhyala B. G. Tilak

Ph.D. (Economics of Education) from the Delhi School of Economics; was on the research and teaching faculty of University of Delhi, Indian Institute of Education, University of Virginia and the Hiroshima University (Japan); was also on the research staff of the World Bank. He is also a Visiting Professor in Economics at the Sri Sathya Sai University; and has authored/edited ten books including Economics of Inequality in Education, Education for Development in Asia (both by Sage Publications), Educational Planning at Grassroots (Ashish), India Socio-Economic Database (Tulika)  , Education, Society and Development   (APH Publishers), Financing Education in India   (Ravi Books), Women’s Education and Development (Garg Publishing) and Financing of Secondary Education in India (Shipra Publications), in addition to about 250 research papers published in reputed journals, and in the series of working papers of the World Bank, UNCRD, IIEP, State University of New York, NCAER.  The honours and awards he received include the prestigious Swami Pranavananda Saraswati National Award of the UGC in Education for his outstanding scholarly research (1999) and Dr.Malcolm Adiseshiah Award for distinguished research contributions to development studies (2003). He is also a member of several official committees on education of the Government of India. He is the Editor of Journal of Educational Planning and Administration and is on the editorial board of several professional journals. He also serves as a short term external consultant for the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, UNICEF, UNDP, UNESCO, SDC, etc.

Harikesh Singh

Ph. D. (Education) from Banaras Hindu University. He is a recipient of the Gold Medal from BHU for M Ed. He has teaching experience of over thirty one years at the undergraduate, postgraduate and research levels and has been Professor since 1993. He was UGC Career Awardee for three years in Humanities and Social Sciences and has successfully guided the research of fifteen Ph. D. scholars. He was President of the BHU Teachers’ Association, national Vice-president of the Acharyakul (founded by Acharya Vinoba Bhave) for two years (2005-07) and Head and Dean of the Faculty of Education, BHU for three years (1999-2002). He was Vice-Chairman of the School Board of BHU and Chairman of and Vice-Chancellor nominee of about dozen committees. Prof. Harikesh Singh has also worked as Director and nodal person of the national seminars of the NCTE and AIU, and has been closely associated with UGC, ICSSR, NCERT, NCTE, and RCI. He has published more than 100 articles, research papers and book reviews, and has given resource lectures in the UGC Academic Staff Colleges of various universities. He has edited a book on ‘Parameters of Quality Research’ and is also editorial adviser to several educational journals.

Savita Kaushal

PhD (Education) from Central Institute of Education, Delhi University. She has received training in Digital Material Development and Production at Johannesburg, South Africa, sponsored by the Commonwealth of Learning, Vancouver. She has various research papers in national and international journals to her credit and has contributed modules for NIOS, IGNOU and Centre for Open and Distance Learning, Jamia Millia Islamia. She was Member of the Editing Committee of the Report of the International Conference on “Models for Educating Street Children using Open Schooling Methodologies” and has done script writing for the educational films for the open school learners. Her writing includes “Constructivist Approaches to Teaching Learning - A Handbook for Teachers of Secondary Stage” (NCERT Publication); “Four Decades of Distance Education in India”(IGNOU); module for  material on Early Childhood Care and Education, (developed by the NIPCCD in collaboration with UNESCO) . She has contributed to the training package for ODL functionaries as a joint venture between NIOS, India and Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Vancouver. She was also member of Committee for preparation of  Draft Curriculum Framework on Vocational Education through Open Schooling.

Sangeeta Angom

Gold Medalist in M.A (Education) and Ph.D (Education) from North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong. She has eight years of teaching experience in education for both undergraduates and post graduates including teacher trainees and was a guest lecturer in Education Department, NEHU, Tura campus. She was principal of a higher education institute and has specialized on Higher Education with special focus on functioning of a University. She has contributed papers on “Responsive management of institutions of higher education”, “University experiences in extension education”, “Quality school education”, “Education for Peace” on various conferences organized by North East India Education Society. Currently, she is Assistant Professor in the Department of Higher and Professional Education.

Ph.D (Education) from M.S. University, and was on the Faculty of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra till recently. He held various administrative and academic positions at Kurukshetra university including Dean (Academic Affairs), Director (Distance Education), coordinator (SAP). He authored three books and more than 150 research papers in different national and international journals, and completed more than 50 research projects funded by various bodies like UGC, MHRD, Government of Haryana. He received the Best Teacher Educator Award for 2005, and is President, All India Association of Educational Research.

Sudha Gopalakrishnan

completed her Masters in English Language and Literature and did her PhD in the area of Comparative Drama. She has worked with the Sahitya Akademi and Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, and with the National Mission for Manuscripts as its Mission Director (2003 – 2007). She represented India as Expert in Intergovernmental Meetings by UNESCO on developing the Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage. She has coordinated the nomination of three expressions of heritage from India as UNESCO “Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity”, as well as that of the Rigveda Manuscripts as “Memory of the World”.  She has several publications to her credit, including original writing, translations, edited volumes and research papers. She is conversant with Sanskrit, Malayalam languages apart from English and Hindi.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Chair

Completed  post graduation in modern Indian history and  Ph.D on the ideology and programme of the national revolutionaries in the 1920s. Taught for four years before joining the National Institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies, New Delhi in 1982. Engaged in research on issues related to history of science and science education in the mid ninteenth and the early twentieth century India. Authored/edited several books including Situating the History of science: Dialogues with Joseph Needham, (Oxford, 1999); Domesticating Modern Science, (Tulika, 2004); Social History of Science in Colonial India, (Oxford, 2007); and UNESCO's History of Humanity, Vol.VII, (Paris, 2008). His most recent book in To Make the Deaf Hear, published in 2007, its Hindi version appeared in 2008 while its Tamil edition came out in 2009. He has been a Fulbright Fellow at the State University of New York and also a Research Associate at REHSEIS, CNRS, Paris.
